January 2008 - Bill Shirley <yahoody77@adelphia.net>

Hi Ken

Back quite a few years ago I posted James Shirley's name on The Shirley asso. web site. I got a reply from a man
named Carmen Glenn. He lived in Montreal, Canada And said that we were related and that he was going to Mass. In the near future and that he would stop by my house on the way and bring me a copy of the info he had.
One day he stopped In and brought me the copy of a hand written book that contained a huge amount of family info.
He also brought me a hand written letter from his grandmother that describes James as a small quiet man often seen reading the bible. Apparently in Ireland he had studied to be a minister. She also described Nancy Berry Doloway as a feisty lady of Portuguese decent.This lady also states that James did not come here alone, That a sister Anne Shirley and at least one brother had also came over. Anne married a man named a man named Michael Cahill and that they had settled in Ottawa.

Later on a lady named Donna Wagner contacted me and said that we were related that her mother was a Shirley and she was related through William Shirley, James' brother. She said that she had a lot of info on that part of the family,and she sent it to me. She had more info on Anne and Michael Cahill. how that they had gotten a land grant for having done favors for the king ect. She also had the father's name as Thomas She said that she hadn't really found anything linking Margaret Butler being linked to the Duke of Ormond, but she was still looking. { I don't believe that she ever will, The dates didn't look right to me.} But she did have pretty good references for the rest of the family. I don't know if you have noticed yet, but this family does not have a large imagination when it comes to names, same names every generation.

When I get my scanner fixed I will try to send you a copy of that letter I am sure you would find it interesting. I also have some pictures in my FTM program that I will try to send if I can figure out how.
Take care;

Bill Shirley
