He or his son James Shirley Jr were taxed the parish levy as early as the late 1680s (often spelled Sherler, Sherlow) and each year will into the 1700s; He frequently appeared in Wighton Manoral Court rolls as one of the sworn jurors to adjudicate land and estate matters for the Lord of the Manor. I give all my other real estate unto John Shirley my son condition he pay unto afsd son Charles Sherley L10 at age 21; Give unto Mary Woods my daughter all my wearing apparel; All the rest of my goods chattles household stuff unto John Sherley and Charles Sherley my sons equally provided they pay to the said Mary Woods L5 sole use exclusive of her husband. Charles Sherley baptised on 26 December 1743 at Wighton son of Thomas and Eliz Shirley; He was apprenticed to William Starkings of Wighton, tailor in 1759; Inherited 3 roods of land in Wighton from his mother in 1763. He died a batchelor soon after his mother, his estate probated by his brother John Shirley of Wighton in 1763.

1(iii). Mary Sherley baptised ______. She married Woods, named in the 1763 will of her mother Elizabeth Sherley; She apparently died prior to the death of her brother John Sherley in 1765.
