1770 Manor of Hether, Leic. Joseph Shirley, gent. of Burton on Trent, purchased the manor, capital mansion, and part of the lands of Hether, from Thomas Everard, surgeon, and Thomas Flavel, tallow-chandler, both of Ashby de la Zouch (who had then lately bought the whole Hether estate from Richard Upton and Elizabeth his wife, and others). Mr. Joseph Shirley, purchaser of the manor 1770, left two daughters and coheirs ; Mary, relict of Samuel-Steele Perkins, of Orton, esq. and Anne, wife of Paul Belcher, clerk, who, a year or two after his marriage, purchased the advowson from T. Everard and T. Flavel, and succeeded G. Everard as rector 1775, signing the Register Sept. 8 that year.
