His wife was Jean Ronald; named his sons Gilbert Auchivole Shirley who inherited 1/3 of his property at Wellgate, Lanark and the stock and trade of his business, and son John Shirley 2/3. Daughters Grace, Jane, and Margaret inherited the rest. Jane married Alexander Drummond, surveyer of stamps and taxes. Margaret married John Marshall Burr, baker of Lauriston Glasgow

2(iii). William Shirley born 21 Apr 1810 Glasgow, Lanark to William Shirley and Jean Ronald; Not named in his father's estate. Possibly died young.

2(iv). Gilbert Auchinvole Shirley chr 24 Aug 1812 Glasgow, Lanark to William Shirley and Jean Ronald; Inherited 1/3 of his father's estate at Wellgate, Lanark as well as the entire stock and trade of his ironmonger business.

2(v). John Shirley born 17 Apr 1818 Glasgow, Lanark; He died 21 Nov 1840; Inherited 2/3 of his father's estate in 1838; His estate was probated 1841 in Glasgow age about 23;
