The Brooks
came to York Co. VA in 1634, to New Kent Co. by 1642 and to King and Queen
Co. VA in 1670 to 1689. There were 6 generations of John Brooks. The 3rd
John married Mary Jones, daughter of Rice Jones and probably lived in old
Rappahannock, now Richmond Co. VA. The 4th John mentioned in Caroline Co.
VA. The 5th John was an early settler on Roanoke River adjoining John
Green about 1725 in Halifax Co. North Carolina. By 1735 he moved to Cape
Fear in NC, by 1757 Orange Co. NC, 1763 to
New Hanover Co. NC and Bladen Co. (now Cumberland Co.). The 6th John born
about 1720 married Jane May who was the daughter of John May and Jane
Williams. Their son John Hannah Brooks was the father of Sarah Brook who
married Richard Shirley.
