A Thomas Ludwell received land in 1671 for transporting 60 people...including Wm. Shirley. It is said Wm. Shirley made several trips to England. From Cavaliers & Pioneers by Nugent Vol II page 92 & 229.

A Thomas and Philip Ludwell were 2nd cousins of Governor Wm. Berkeley. Gov. Berkeleys widow, Philpa Culpeper, widow of Samuel Stephens, married Philip Ludwell. She may have been the daughter of Sir George Snelling and his wife Cacelia Shirley. She would thus be a 3rd cousin of Cecilia Shirley, wife of Lord Delaware West.
