The Stokes County, North Carolina Record of Marriage Bonds has the following entry on page 344:
Groom - Williams, D(avid), Bride - Betheny Sherely, Date of Bond - 1Sept. 1816, Bondsman & Witness - Jesse Dunlap.
Another researcher has a date for the marriage of David Williams and Tryphena Shirley in North Carolina as 8 Sept. 1816. It would appear likely that Betheny and Tryphena are one and the same person.
