Some of Jacob Shirley's, Branch #53 moved to San Joaquin, CA from Crawford County, MO. after 1850. We believe Thomas J. Shirley was Jacob's brother. Thomas was born in NC abt 1810. He died in CA in 1859. His wife Mary Shirley has one of Jacob's daughters with her in the 1860 census San Joaquin, CA. That is Margaret who was born Dec. 2, 1845 in MO. Margaret Shirley is then listed as marrying H.W. Williams Aug 19, 1864. The rest of Jacob and Sophia Shirley's children are also living in Joaquin, CA in 1860 under one household. They are William bn Feb 18, 1837 TN; Charles bn Sept 24, 1839 TN and Mary Jane bn Mar. 29, 1842 in TN. Thomas and Jacob Shirley also seemed to have a sister Elizabeth b 1801 in NC. She married John Brooks. They lived in Dent County MO and Iowa. She died 7-12-1877 and is buried Miller Cemetery, Dent Co. MO. Wondering if our Williams and Shirley families were connected in NC and then again in CA.?
