Rev Arnold Nathaniel Shirley and wife Harriet Moody
(posted to Geni by Bryce Goff)

Email from Bryce Aug 2020 - I am interested in learning any history you might have on Arnold and Harriet (Hattie Moody) Shirley. I know they met at Eureka College and moved to Jamaica and believe they were involved in ministry. Harriet’s brother Ferdinand is my wife’s great great grandfather. My wife’s great grandmother Ruth (Moody) Wright stayed in touch with her cousins in Jamaica. I’ve collected most of what I know on Hattie’s family history (mainly on her father Robert, who I think had an amazing story) at www.moodyfamilyhistory.webs.com. I am particularly interested in any stories that may exist or learning about their ministry. If one were to travel to a Portland could one see any sites related to their ministry or meet any remaining family there? I’m happy to share anything that may be of interested. One nugget I came across a few years ago is that one of Hattie’s brothers’ families raised Annie Malone, a fairly well known black hair care entrepreneur and philanthropist in Chicago and St.Louis (see Annie Malone historical society). I’ve been to several of Hatties’ siblings’ graves, homes or churches they attended in Illinois.
