Email from Thomas May 2020 - My 3rd Great Grandfather was
Matthew Shirley who was married to Mary Sheehan. My 2nd Great
Grandfather was Thomas Shirley who married to Mary Keys. They
had a son, John Shirley, born in 1860 and married Margaret Farley.
He was killed on the railroad tracks in 1902 after they had a
daughter, Mary Elizabeth Shirley. She married Stuart Frederick
Myers and they had a daughter, Rowena Mary, who married Thomas
John Landers

May 7, 1913 - Wyoming Reporter Vol 26 No 51 - James Shirley,
who was born in Wyoming 49 years ago and had always lived here
until two years ago, when he moved to Batavia, died at the Batavia
Hospital, Wednesday afternoon from peritonitis, following an
operation. He was unmarried and was a brother of Thomas Shirley
of Wyoming and Matthew Shirley of Hornell. The funeral was held
at Batavia on Friday morning.

1915 August 25 - Buffalo Evening News - Matthew Shirley
a well known resident of this township, died yesterday. Mr Shirley
was born in Ireland 76 years ago and at the age of five years
came to this country, settling with his parents in Canada. When
he was 15 yeears old he married Miss Mary Moore of Pavillion
and soon afterward they removed to the farm where his death occurred.
Besides his wife he leaves the following children: Mrs Frank
Rider, Miss Nellie Shirley, Miss Genevieve Shirley, Miss Emma
Shirley, Joseph and Charles Shirley all of Le Roy; Mrs William
Palmer of Rochester, Mrs Louise Powers of Batavia, John Shirley
of Buffalo and Matthew Shirley of Lansing, Texas. The funeral
will be held Friday morning at St Peter's Church and the interment
will be made in St Francis cemetery.
August 25, 1915 The Daily News, Batavia, New York, - Le
Roy Aug. 25. - Matthew Shirley died yesterday at his home, 2
1/2 miles southwest of the village of Le Roy, from infirmities
of age. He had been in failing health two years and confined
to his bed two weeks. Mr. Shirley was born in County Wexford,
Ireland, on March 16, 1839, and at the age of five years his
parents moved to Canada and ten years later to Pavilion. Mr.
Shirley became a resident of Le Roy, where he spent the remainder
of his life, fifty years ago. He had always been a farmer. He
was a member of St. Peter's church. His wife formerly was Miss
Mary Moore of Pavilion. The were married on December 25, 1865.
Surviving Mr. Shirley are his wife and ten children, Joseph and
Charles Shirley, Mrs. Frank Rider and Misses Nellie, Genevieve
and Emma Shirley, all of Le Roy; John Shirley of Buffalo, Matthew
Shirley, Jr. of Texas, Mrs. Henry Powers of Batavia and Mrs.
W. E. Palmer of Rochester. The funeral will be held from St.
Peter's church at 9 o'clock on Friday morning and the burial
will be in St. Francis's cemetery.

October 24, 1918 The Daily News, Batavia, New York, - Le
Roy, Oct. 24. - The funeral of Joseph William Shirley will be
held from St. Peter's church at 9 o'clock tomorrow morning, with
interment in St. Francis Cemetery. Mr. Shirley died at his home
on North street at 4:45 o'clock yesterday afternoon. He had been
ill since Friday, congestion of the lungs following influenza.
He was born in the town of LeRoy on May 22, 1884, being a son
of the later Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Shirley, and had always lived
here. He was a carpenter by trade and a member of St. Peter's
church and the Holy Name Society. He is survived by two brothers
and six sisters, John of Buffalo, Mrs. Louise Powers of Geneseo,
Mrs. Anna Palmer and Miss Genevieve Shirley, both of Rochester,
Mrs. Mary Rider, Miss Nellie Shirley, Mrs. Emma Buckley and Charles,
all of Le Roy.
