THOMAS NORRIS 1608 Congham, Norfolk Co. England, d.
1675 Talbot Co. MD married Anne Hynson 1637 Nansemond Co. Virginia,
(Upper Norfolk Co.) [Thomas is the son of Geoffrey Norris (1559-1609)
and wife, Mary MYLES
(Miles)].
Thomas Norris is said to have
followed William Claiborne in his trading expeditions up the
Chesapeake Bay and then settled in St. Mary's Co. MD. as a Protestant
planter. As a trader, he went back and forth between Maryland
and Virginia.
1. Thomas Norris 1638 St. Mary's Co. MD d. June 1683 while visiting
daughter, Martha in Lancaster Co. VA. m. 1st Martha Ironmonger
in Northumberland Co. VA (3 children). m. 2nd Elizabeth Hosier
in Kent Co. MD ca. 1671. He was a mariner like his father. Thomas
and Eliz. moved to Charleston South Carolina 1671-74 then returned
to Maryland where they settled in 1775.
son:
(1). John Norris 1672 Charleston,
South Carolina. He also was a mariner and sailed out of Baltimore
MD. m. Mary Patrick 1705 and moved to Charleston, South Carolina
where he received a land grant for 300 acres in the Colleton
District of S.C. He died ca. 1750 and Mary his widow moved to
Abbeville SC to be near their son, Robert Norris and he died
in 1797 Anderson Co. SC.

They lived in Sharpsburg near Hagerstown
until they moved to Pennsylvania with some of their grown
children. Some descendants say it was about 1763 others
say it was more like 1781.
They settled on the Raystown branch of
the Juniata River and he acquired a farm that had belonged to
the Sanders family who had all been killed by Indians in 1780.
This farm of 390 acres was at that time in Hopewell, Twp. of
Bedford Co. PA. Later it became part of Penn Twp. in Huntington
Co. PA.
