Aaron Shirley born about 1810 in South Carolina; He
commissioned the survey of 80 acres of land in Tuscaloosa Co
AL in 1835. The chaincarrier for the survey was his brother Lewis
Shirley; He appeared on the 1837/38 tax list for Tuscaloosa Co
AL charged for 1 white poll and 1 wood clock; He was enumerated
in the 1840 Tuscaloosa Co AL census, age 20-30, married wtih
3 young children in the household; He was appointed a road commissioner
for Section 16 in Tuscaloosa County in 1841; Aaron appears in
several land transactions during the early 1840s and also appears
in the the store ledger of John McConnell of Northport AL in
1846; He and wife Anna and their children were enumerated in
the 1850 Tuscaloosa Co census, age 40 (born 1810, South Carolina);
His father Robert Shirley age 75 was enumerated in Aaron's family
household; Aaron was simultaneously enumerated in the Agriculture
census for that year, with 310 acres; Aaron was also enumerated
in the 1855 Alabama state census; He appears in several additional
land transactions during the 1850s presumably preparing to migrate
to Arkansas where he held land in Newton County, as well as land
in Pope County; He was enumerated in Montgomery Co Arkansas in
1860 census, age 50; Aaron died during the Civil War sometime
before August 1862. He was supposedly buried in Holly Springs,
Marshall Co. Mississippi. His will was probated by his wife in
Pope Co Arkansas in 1862.

of Aaron Shirley - I will all my real and personal property to
Anna Shirley my beloved wife during her lifetime and at the end
of twenty one years from this date provided she don't live that
long the estate shall all be sold and an equal divide made between
all the children. And if she should live beyond that time it
shall be sold at her death. I have two hundred and fortty acres
of land in Newton County and eighty acres of land in Pope County
Arkansas which are included in this will. the reason why I wright
this will now is because I volunteered in the service of the
southern confederacy for the term of 12 months and if I should
live to return I can make this will at pleasure but if I should
never return this will shal be at full force and effect. <s>
