Taiser/Pizer

1804 in Pennsylvania; She was born about 1777; She was
age 77 in husband's 1850 census household
Joseph Shirley
is a son of John Shirley, who came from Bucks county, Pennsylvania.
He married Elizabeth Pizer, whose father emigrated from Germany
to Armstrong county at an early day. The few settlers in the
neighborhood banded together for mutual protection and built
a fort as a place of refuge in the event of an Indian attack.
When Elizabeth Pizer was about six years old there was an alarm
given that "the Indians are coming!" Mr. Pizer, with
his family, fled to the fort with others, but he, being anxious
to save valuable papers pertaining to his land, returned to secure
them and was never again seen or heard from. As no Indians appeared,
it has always been supposed that the alarm was given to give
some unscrupulous parties in the neighborhood an opportunity
to murder Mr. Pizer and secure land by obtaining possession of
the papers, which later was actually done. - Genealogical and
personal history of Fayette county Pennsylvania, Volume 3 By
