3(i). Thomas Shirley, esq of Garrynaman, Kells Parish, Kilkenny
- identified as an elder son of Paul Shirley of Bellmaine in
a 1794 lease document; named as a cousin of John Shirley of Croan
in his 1811 will.
1851 June 25 - Kilkenny Moderator (newspaper snippet) -
"....on the....instant, at his residence, Garrynaman, after
a short....., Mr Thomas Shirley, age 72 years....."

4(i). Thomas
Shirley gent of Tullamaine, Kilkenny Catholic. born
say about 1810. He held considerable townlands at Knockreagh,
Tullamaine, Thomastown Catholic Parish, Kilkenny. He was a cess
payer for lands at Tullamaine, Shillelogher Barony in 1834. Catholic.
His father is confirmed by the 1912
funeral notice of Elizabeth Shirley, wife of James Shirley of
Garrynaman (Coroner). The newspaper identified Elizabeth Shirley's
mourners and their relationships. One of Thomas Shirley of Tullamaine's
daughters was named Elizabeth's niece in the funeral notice.
Moreover, in the death notice of another of Thomas Shirley of
Tullamain's daughters, the newspaper stated she was a member
of a very old Kilkenny family, the Shirleys of Garrynaman, Kells.
married Catherine Nowlan on _____ 1828 by license at
_____, Kilkenny; Daughter of Catherine Nowlan and sister of Mrs
Ann Ryan of Scart.

Shirley, esq. of Garrynaman, Kells Coroner for the Southern
Division of Kilkenny, born about 1816
at Kilkenny; He inherited his father's lands at Garrynaman, Kells,
Lived at Garrynaman House. He died 13 February 1888 (death cert)
at Garrynamann, Kilkenny. Roman Catholic, age 72.

Catholic Parish Church; She was James Shirley's cousin, the daughter of John Shirley
of Burnchurch. Born about 1837, age 74 in the 1911 census;
She died in 1912, age 86 (obituary)
4(iii). Paul Shirley of Coan co Kilkenny born say about
1820. 3rd son of Thomas Shirley of Garrynaman (source: marriage
notice, Dublin Evening Mail). The couple's first child was
baptised Catholic at Muckalee in 1841. Residence: Coon

4(iv). 4th son (Unidentified. But he certainly exists,
since records named a 5th son of Thomas Shirley of Garrynaman.
He may be John Shirley of Stonyford, died Rathduff Kilkenny)
4(v). William Shirley born say about 1824. 5th son
of Thomas Shirley of Garrynaman as per deed dated 1834; He seems
to have inherited land at Tullamaine by the time of the 1849
Griffith's Valuation, a resident of Tullamaine at the time of
his marriage in 1846. His wife was identified as a widow at the
time of her death in 1885.

of Garrynaman - Dated 28 April 1834, that by indenture of lease
and release of 21 and 27 August 1783.....right title and interest
of sd John Shirley under sd indenture rested in the sd Thomas
Shirley, party thereto...that the sd John Shirley and Henry Hayden
two of the lives named in the original lease died ....nominate
the lives of Thomas Butler 5th son of the Hnble Pierce Butler
of Balyconre and William Shirley 5th son of the said Thomas Shirley
in place of sd John Shirley and Henry Hayden dec'd....

the residence of her brother Richard Brannigan at Stradbally,

This marriage cannot be for William
Shirley son of Thomas Shirley gent of Tullamaine. He was baptized
in 1834, thus only 12 years old at the 1846 marriage. The marriage
document says William Shirley is "full age"
